The Japantown Merchants Association brings together the shops, restaurants and small businesses that make San Francisco's Japantown feel like nowhere else. They are a sponsor of our Perfect Blue screening on October 15, and a big part of why we wanted Screening No. 1 to happen right here.
What they do.
Japantown is the oldest and largest of the three Japantowns left in the United States, and it is home to more than 200 small businesses, many of them family run for generations. The association speaks up for those merchants and helps keep the neighborhood a place people want to come back to.
Some of the best nights in this city start with ramen in the Japan Center, a stop at the bookstore and something sweet on the walk to Peace Plaza. That is the Japantown these merchants keep alive.
